David & Paul Picton Jones of Picton
Sports, Llanelli, specialise in selling and customising sports
kits, embroidery, heatpressing as well as operating a fully
stocked sports shop from their premises.
It all began when Mr Jones and friends in Dura Cables started a rugby team. He needed training shirts, and took a chance by spending £1,000 on a batch. After successfully selling them off to his team, he decided he wanted to make more of this venture.
Meanwhile Paul, his son,
started Picton Printing, specialising in Embroidery, Screen
Printing and Heat Pressing in Trostre, Llanelli, which grew from
strength to strength. In 2001, both Father and Son
amalgamated, with two separate units in Llanelli Workshops.
The business currently
employs sixteen staff and has just hit an annual turnover of £1m. Until seven years ago, the road to success was rocky, but then things "really took off".
What started off as selling
rugby shirts out of the boot of a car, has grown to such an
extent that they
have materialised their plans of bringing together a £1m purpose-built factory at Dafen
Industrial Estate from where they now operate.
Many clothing companies have their manufacturing operations in the Far East, but the small number of shirts ordered by each club means that it is more cost
and time effective to make them locally, ensuring the
highest quality standards.
We manufacture for major
Global brands, like Kooga, and supply from small local teams
to large international teams. |
